What could I possibly write about? There are many things on my mind when it comes to my personal expression in an essay. I was looking into topics that I’m interested in, topics that I like to talk about. I already wrote a whole article about rock climbing, so I guess I can rule that out. I’m really looking to mix it up and make it a little more exciting. This brainstorming will mostly result with me asking a lot of “what if” questions. Every summer I pick up a summer job to make money that I can leisurely spend throughout the year. I always look for lucrative full-time opportunities that I know will provide me with sufficient hours to generate a large source of income. Ever since I turned 16 I was always looking for jobs, so I could make that extra money and gain my financial independence. I first real job was working as a Beach Crew Attendant at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis club. This was a standard entry level service job that required me to help customers set up beach equipment on the resort’s private beach. This job was extremely active and tiring as I was working 40 hours a week under the heat of the sun. The pay-out was very good as I frequently got tips for helping resort members with their beach set ups. I worked this same job for two consecutive summers. In Murphy’s article she talks about success within college. Speaking about the different aspects of a successful college student she categorizes them into three different types of learners: surface, strategic and deep learners. I don’t think this is accurate. The purpose of college is learning valuable skills for our professional career so that when we graduate we can contribute to the work force. Besides this generic understanding I have always looked at it a little differently. Throughout my college experience I have always understood my success to be how I learn from my mistakes. Being in college for the last three years has helped me mature and grow in so many ways. Whether it was social academically or organizationally, most of my knowledge that I came to learn was because I made so many mistakes. when life gets hard, climb harder Hi my name is Bernardo Halperin and close to 4 years ago, I started something I’ll never stop. I started rock climbing. In my last year of high school, a good friend of mine introduced me to the local rock climbing gym, where I instantly fell in love with the sport. I always struggled in regular team sports, finding myself unmotivated and undedicated often never being able to fully commit myself. With rock climbing it was different, I found myself to be even more motivated because I was pushing myself individually. Whenever the going is tough, I would always take it out on the rocks.
