Looking into Science!

Being a Biology Major holding an emphasis in cellular molecular biology. I’m looking into work in the field of pharmaceuticals and biotechnology. This has always been an interest of mine because I am genuinely passionate about immunology with the production of medicines and medical devices. I’ve always been interested in the science of how things work and how to design medical equipment or pharmaceuticals. These companies are often great places to start your career within the field but eventually I want to have my own company. This means starting at one of these entry level positions, advancing my education and knowledge of the industry and then eventually branching out to start something on my own.             Some of the jobs I’m looking for are along the lines of entry level undergraduate internships that focus on specific aspects of the company. Most of these opportunities ask that you be studying to complete your bachelors...

What to Write

What could I possibly write about? There are many things on my mind when it comes to my personal expression in an essay. I was looking into topics that I’m interested in, topics that I like to talk about. I already wrote a whole article about rock climbing, so I guess I can rule that out. I’m really looking to mix it up and make it a little more exciting. This brainstorming will mostly result with me asking a lot of “what if” questions. Good thing that’s what you’re asking yourself as well. What if I wrote about my experience in college? Now this could spiral into so many different topics in itself. This could range from my academic experience to my social experience or so much more. I can even write about this year alone or how crazy and unpredictable it has been. I can go on and on with so many different stories and experiences that would provide me with such an excellent format for my essay. I can even go on to talk about all the clubs and groups I joined and how all the experi...

Mush Faking my Summer Job as a Food Runner

Every summer I pick up a summer job to make money that I can leisurely spend throughout the year. I always look for lucrative full-time opportunities that I know will provide me with sufficient hours to generate a large source of income. Ever since I turned 16 I was always looking for jobs, so I could make that extra money and gain my financial independence. I first real job was working as a Beach Crew Attendant at the La Jolla Beach and Tennis club. This was a standard entry level service job that required me to help customers set up beach equipment on the resort’s private beach. This job was extremely active and tiring as I was working 40 hours a week under the heat of the sun. The pay-out was very good as I frequently got tips for helping resort members with their beach set ups. I worked this same job for two consecutive summers. Then this last school year someone brought to my attention the possibility of becoming a food runner. Supposedly the hours were muc...

What Have You Learned?

In Murphy’s article she talks about success within college. Speaking about the different aspects of a successful college student she categorizes them into three different types of learners: surface, strategic and deep learners. I don’t think this is accurate. The purpose of college is learning valuable skills for our professional career so that when we graduate we can contribute to the work force. Besides this generic understanding I have always looked at it a little differently. Throughout my college experience I have always understood my success to be how I learn from my mistakes. Being in college for the last three years has helped me mature and grow in so many ways. Whether it was social academically or organizationally, most of my knowledge that I came to learn was because I made so many mistakes. I would forget to do assignments, leave my clothes in the washer too long and buy the wrong groceries. All these mistakes, being big or small have all helped me learn so...

I am myself

I am from the earth From carbon and hydrogen I am from the air in the cool breeze (Quite and riveting) I am from the mountains, the latin country Whose hands have always Been mine I am from the curls and the smile, From the city and the country. I’m from the studied   And the knowledgable, From care and interest. I’m from a people of study With ambition And the inspiration to achieve I’m from the Peruvian coast, Thick corn and coca tea. From the people I have That truly care To the schools that taught me well. In my room there is a space, where my memories lay. A moving mass That carries me everyday. I am from this entity- Created from everything before- as I myself am the mass I used the mentor text, to help myself keep a consistent structure from my poem. I made sure to keep as much of the poem’s rhythm as I can in order for it to be more smooth sounding. The only parts I really changed were the concept and w...

My 6 word memoir

when life gets hard, climb harder Hi my name is Bernardo Halperin and close to 4 years ago, I started something I’ll never stop. I started rock climbing. In my last year of high school, a good friend of mine introduced me to the local rock climbing gym, where I instantly fell in love with the sport. I always struggled in regular team sports, finding myself unmotivated and undedicated often never being able to fully commit myself. With rock climbing it was different, I found myself to be even more motivated because I was pushing myself individually. Whenever the going is tough, I would always take it out on the rocks. Whenever I would find myself dealing with hardship, I would always resort to rock climbing. The gym provided myself with a space to think, reflect and convert my energy into something I can work on. Whenever I resorted to climbing in the gym I would focus on what I could work on and improve, pushing myself to new heights and focusing to change my reality o...
